At Featherhead Griffons we believe in breeding Wirehaired Pointing Griffons as companions for the Hunt and the Home, both. Our breeding stock is selected for those dogs that have a family home temperament and are highly performant in the field. While hunting performance is critical in our breeding program, we believe that it must be underpinned by the temperament of a well behaved household companion.
Jason is very active in NAVHDA, serving as both a Chapter Board Member and an Apprentice Judge. While NAVHDA and hunt tests are very important to us, it will never take the place of the Big Sky prairies, thickly wooded creek bottoms, or steep chukar slopes. Yet, it serves us well in evaluating our dogs objectively. It’s also a learning opportunity to be able to witness many dogs of many breeds doing what they were bred to do. However, these bird dogs hunt wild birds 30+ days of the year and we harvest multiple species of upland birds as well as waterfowl.
All pups are dual registered NAVHDA and AKC, and fully vaccinated. Prior to leaving the nest, all of the little Featherheads will have been exposed to game birds (dead), live birds (pigeons), water, and gunshots. We begin Early Neurological Stimulation on day 3. During week 6 or 7 we conduct an independent Volhard’s Puppy Aptitude Test with a local professional trainer.
We strive to put the right dogs in the right homes
